Will clients travel
« on: 17 October 2011, 06:56:32 pm »
Hi I will be relocating to the Leeds York area. My question is will it effect my client base if i live outside the city centre.
In a ideal world i would rent a city centre apartment in Leeds or York but i am planning to work from home so i could not take a apartment as i have cats. So i will have to rent a house outside of the centre. I would want to work from home Monday to Friday 10 till 4 so office hours. Can any ladies working in the areas i am considering help me out with the reality of clients travelling outside of the centre. I am worried i would not be able to get regular full time work if i am not based in the heart of the city centre?.

Depends if you are accessible and close to a major route, say you are close to a main route in or out of the city then you could just be as busy.  Some may prefer quieter, less obvious areas too.

Hi Carmen,

I live in Leeds and work from my own property ( a house) near to the Airport and have never had a problem with clients travelling to me.  Quite a few of my clients work close to where I live  which will apply to whichever area you choose  and with the hours you are hoping to work you would be ideal for lunch time appointments or easy for clients to explain absence due to meeting over run etc.

Some others seem to  prefer to be out of the city centre purely because of the volume of traffic in town and the dreaded city centre loop/parking etc but  as Strawberry says try to stay close to the major roads in and out of town and the motorway network too.

I would also say when choosing your place take into account how discreet parking and the walk to your front door is from a clients point of view.

hi hun,

Terraced houses at the end of a street are always ok as clients can nip in and out without much fuss, or ones that have a walk way entrance to the back. If you want to work from home be aware of the neighbours, they can't complain if they don't know.

I'd say get somewhere not longer than a 20 minute ride to station or as the other ladoies' point out near major roads. Really easy parking is the main thing for clients. If they have to pay for parking it will put them off in my experience. Never go for cul-de-sac type housing as your neighbours will be front facing and generally very nosey! Student areas are quite good as no one really cares as properties are changing hands all the time. When you view property ask questions about stuff like the neighbours etc etc.
Hope this helps x
