[Journalist making programme on] Online predators
« on: 17 July 2014, 05:42:37 pm »
I'm a journalist making a programme looking at the dangers of the online sex industry and the mistakes made by those that are new to it. For example, sharing too much personal information online. Having read the media advice post on here, specifically the section about online predators, I thought this may be a topic some forum members may want to help me with.

If you work in the Norfolk or Suffolk area and think you have an experience that would be worth sharing please send me a message. I am able to provide anonymity if that is needed.

Can you please make it clear who you are, for whom this programme is being made and why people here ought to help (this includes an assurance that they will be renumerated for their time)?

Some credible contact details would be good too - as you've helpfully pointed out in your thread opener, sending off sensitive information to random strangers on the internet is not something we recommend anybody do, and that includes this section even more so than others.

Apologies for the late reply. I've been away for work. I am a journalist at the BBC working for the regional documentary programme Inside Out. We are able to offer some renumeration for people's time. If anyone wants to know more about me personally please can they send me a direct message and I can provide more information about my background as a journalist. I'm reluctant to give away more information about myself in the forum. The focus of the programme is about safety online, so if anyone is in the Norfolk and Suffolk area and feels strongly enough to share their story, then please get in touch. As I said before, we are able to provide anonymity if needed. Thanks again.

Hello,

I was just reading the extract of the latest book from Nick Davies about News of the World in the Guardian yesterday. I was really shocked to read howthis popular media was promising people payment for information and often managed to get out of paying anything. As a sex worker led organisation receiving 10s of media request a month, we would appreciate if there was more clarity about payment.

Thank you
