Choosing an incall place: house or flat?
« on: 10 October 2012, 07:58:03 pm »
Is a house as discreet like an apartment?. As I live in one but would like a house for the back garden easy access but then on the other hand with the nosy neighbors. Do some find being left alone in a house?.

My experience is the exact opposite.

I think it depends on the situation and location.

I thought in a house with high traffic the odd days would cause suspicion unless very spaced out.

I agree with Sensualtouch, apartment are more discreet than houses. I have a friend who used to work from a house she rented. Neighbours complained to the police who gave her a warning and advised the estate agent who immediately asked to leave with immediate effect.

I think it depends on the house - if you've a detached place in the middle of nowhere or a semi/terrace in a street where there's mostly working parents who are out a lot you're a lot less prone to nosey neighbours than somebody in a new build apartment block with paper thin walls or a lot of retired residents in the flat who are at home all day, especially if you have other people's doors opposite yours. My old place was a small cottage and my current one is a large apartment and they've both got advantages and disadvantages.

I've done both and would say both have their good and bad sides. I agree that the entry and exit points are the main things to look at though - not many punters are going to be happy walking up a garden path if it's a busy street and the neighbours are all out in the front yard or whatever. A separate door doesn't hurt, but I've never had one and I do think half the battle is planning carefully.

Oh here we go again slaging off low escorting wages. And you will find that escorting is well above the miminum wage a single digit. If you did your home work right.

i think some ladies on here are lucky enough to be a bit older and actually own their own incall property/home, so dont have to worry about rent on 2 places (or even rent AT ALL) or neighbours getting them evicted

us other poor souls that are 'growing up' shall we say in a recession arnt that lucky and can only see so many clients due to neighbours etc

I wish I could afford to buy my own place! maybe in the future lol xx

Owning your own place and working from it, in my eyes makes it actually harder.  You may not have the worry of being evicted by a landlord but neighbours, even when your property is bought, can make life very very difficult for you if they find out what you do and lets face it, its not something you are going to keep under wraps for long.

IMO renting somewhere to work from is far superior.  You can up and leave any time you like and move somewhere else.  Not so restricting.  You can also lock the door and walk away and not have the worry of someone chapping your door/ringing your bell at stupid oclock which ive heard happens many times esp when guys are bladdered and horny  ::)  You do not need to worry about traffic through the apartment if you dont intend staying long (say a couple of years or so).  There are so many advantages to renting.  You can also sleep at night IN YOUR OWN BED knowing that you havent had to "work" in it that day.  The advantages are endless. Well for me they are anyway.

I do agree however I think the stress of making the money, cleaning and maintaining two places would be too much for me, I'd rather work from my rented home and see less clients (at the moment anyway)

I think that it would be much easier owning your own place to work from, whilst neighbours can make your life hard they cant actually do anything about what/who you are doing in your own place.

I find with renting all it takes is one complaint from a neighbour to your agency/landlord and they are on your case. If you do anything your neighbours dont like they always take it up themselves to try and get you removed from the property, which unfortunately isnt that hard these days. It isnt that easy to rent anymore if its on your record you've been evicted, or you cant get references as all your landlords have had you out for prozzying at the property (or doing something else nosy neighbours arnt happy with).

I know this from bitter experience and I find with owning your own home theres very little neighbours can actually do. No one can take your home off you except the mortgage lender if you dont pay. If your a lady who has bought their home outright or paid off the mortgage you imo have pretty much nothing to worry about.

plus if you have a 2 or 3 bedroom house like I do and have a room spare you can do incalls in that and never have to use your own bed

throughout indie working, neighbours have been the bane of my life!!!  :FF  ;D

I think the main thing you have to do is to make sure you rent the right place, ie definitely prossie friendly.  Very anonymous.

I have worked in several places and was three years in one place.  I was a year working there before a neighbour realised I was in the apartment.  Even after that I hardly ever saw anyone.  I just ensure the apartment is in the "right" place.  Its not somewhere you find without a lot of investigating.  To me that is paramount.  And the freedom to move when and if I want is my first consideration.

My problem is probably I live in a village out of the way type area, its kind of hard to rent a place away from neighbours roaming eyes

what kind of incall places would you say are good to work from? What do you think is the 'right' place? I've found its impossible to find what the neighbours round a property are like until you've lived there atleast a good few weeks

I agree , having my own home and a seperate working flat can be stressful  I am lucky due to a combination of things that both my home and flat are both mortgage free. So my overheads are minimal I can work com my flat and do 2 3 a day and be well off but I do like touring so I continue to tour

But I have been in the position of paying a mortgage on my home and renting a seperate flat while my Working flat was being rented out as i wasn't able to work from due to the developemnt of Cabot circus of which my flat was slap bang in the middle of it  For almost 5 years I had to rent two places

it was stressful on occasions as you feel that you have to take every booking because you have double the cost I guess that where's I got my working ethic from of working long hours

My flat is the 1st one on my floor I have no neighbours opposite but I only work there for say 3 - 4 weeks then I'm off touring for 3  weeks so it'd hard to get a real pattern for people to get suspicious and I don't speak to neighbours on my floor and rarely see them

I remember your post about this problem

The worst ever was when I worked from somewhere for 18 months, thought I was fine, no-one knew a thing. Until a few months after I left I ran into 2 neighbours and was given the most disdainful look EVER .  :-X. Recently I found myself in the area again for some unrelated reason and called a local taxi firm I used to use when I worked there - well, the taxi driver was very forthcoming in hints about he knows what I was doing there before and why don't we go to his flat (double  :-X and  >:()

Anyway I'd say the major consideration would be ....... somewhere where the neighbours doors or front court don't look onto your own, where it's not so easy to see people coming in or out. The place I am just now there are no houses opposite the building I work from and lots of flats in the block full of professional working people who leave in the morning and don't get back til 7pm or so, are too busy with their own life to care about what others are doing so long as you don't cause them a problem.

That's another thing, the best neighbours are working people. The worst I'd say are pensioners, or any retired people (even if they are younger) especially if they have bought their home. Also not too good is renting a working place in areas of high unemployment obviously cause people will be home all day and maybe jealous if they suspect you are earning quite a bit. Places with a lot of children in the block can be problematic because children require a lot of going in and out and chasing them around stairs , letting them in from playing outside etc so much more likely to spot more people coming in.

I used to put a nameplate on my intercom and front door - "Fake but plausible firstname and surname - Sports Massage, Lymphatic Drainage" so as to explain why it is mostly men coming and going.

Also... be pleasant in passing, but don't get too friendly with neighbours. Wear business wear or slobby tracksuits entering and leaving, don't wear fancy clothes or dressing gowns in the middle of day. x

I've separated and merged these last few posts with a more appropriate thread - it's a good topic, but it wasn't the one under discussion.

Original thread is still here :).
