Cold sores
« on: 24 April 2013, 11:41:50 am »
Hi Ladies,
I have had herpes virus for years and used to get an outbursts of cold sores on my lips time to time. But lately it just became unbearable get them every two weeks. One week takes for them to heal, one week cold-sore-free and here we go again... I noticed that I get them after loads or rough kissing. I have to stress that clients did not have any visible cold sores on them at the time of booking. I don't know if that's a coincidence or not but it drives me mad  :FF
I like kissing so I can't see any problem with kissing client but if that is the case I will have to stop doing that.
I am also going through a bit of a stressfull time in my private life so may be that's the case and kissing is just the coincidence. I hope so  :)
Has anyone had similar situation and how did you deal with that? I'm sure I am not the only one with this problem as the herpes is so widely spread now.

There is a definite link between stress and outbreaks, and here outbreaks = more stress because of the impact on the work too.

Are you using any of the antiviral medicines to help limit the duration and intensity of each outbreak?

No, i using those special clear plasters. They seem to be working and its less possibility to spread and not so sore when its covered but still it takes time to heal and i can't work during that week.

I used to get cold sore outbreaks as often as you do at the moment, and they would always show up when I was very stressed or  a little under the weather. During a particularly stressful period, I had blisters on my lips continuously for about 2 months!

So yes, in my experience stress can definitely trigger them.

It's interesting you should mention kissing, I had the same thoughts. My boyfriend always has a bit of a stubble, it's soft, but if we do lots of very full-on, 'aggressive' kissing (you know the kind  8)) I can sometimes feel the tingling sensation around my lips. It also happens when my lips are dry and cracked, so perhaps it is something to do with the delicate skin getting irritated and therefore more prone to outbreaks?

I find that if I apply the cold sore cream as soon as I feel even the slightest tingle, it usually stops the blisters from forming. Important: when you apply the cold sore cream, remember to also put some on your face, along the nearest nerve, begin the application from that area, moving towards the blister (if you do it the other way around, you might risk spreading the infection to other parts of your face). So for upper lip it's the area around the side of your nose/cheek/under the eye; bottom lip - chin and jaw. You can google 'facial nerves' for pictures to get a better idea, it's a bit difficult for me to explain ;).

If you feel the tingle and don't have any cream/plasters to hand, I find that touching the affected area for a few second with an ice cube, basically 'freezing it' a bit, tends to help as well.

Do you take any vitamins/supplements for your overall health? I seem to be getting the sores very rarely these days, it's only when I'm very run down/weak/extremely stressed. Taking a few supplements seems to have improved my general wellbeing and helps keep the nasty sores at bay too.

I hope you find a way to beat the bastards ;P Good luck!

I used to get them all the time. Weekly sometimes. My doctor recommended a supplement called l-lysine (check out the reviews online for coldsore treatment) and I haven't had one for a year now. I've also been told a diet high in sugar will really aggrevate them. Throw out any makeup you have that might have come into contact with them as this will keep spreading the virus.
Make sure you are as relaxed as possible too (easier said than done) so maybe try going to bed a bit earlier every night and having a relaxing bath etc.
And finally tea tree oil can help speed up healing

Lysine tablets are a god send. Get them from any health shop and take them regularly they help deter outbreaks.

I too find stubble/rough kissing gives me more of an outbreak but these tablets have helped xx

Sea salt mixed in water then keep applying. I have sea salt in a jug mixed up. I use for every thing. It speeds up the healing process.

Have a look on Amazon for ViruLite.  It's a new treatment in the form of a little gadget that uses light to treat.  I have one and its the best thingI have ever used.  You still won't be able to work but it stops the sore from going to the scab stage and clears it up in record time.  Boots also have their own version in larger stores.

L-lysine works a treat. I got sum for my son, he was getting them all the time. Before he got married I bought him some. They are brilliant.

Good luck with it all & let us know yr opinion.

I don't know if this will be irrelevant but my lip swelled up pretty bad a couple of days ago, dunno maybe a mouth ulcer. After applying sea salt. Yesterday it was down with a little open. And today completely gone. Maybe it will give quick results with cold sores as well. It is worth a try.

I started taking Lysine and using tea-tree oil at the same time. Haven't had such a speedy recovery in my life as this time. The cold sores started showing on Wednesday and Sunday it was all clear. So yes, those two products are worth trying. Now just fingers crossed that the Lysin will work further and the cold sores will disappear at least for a while. Thanks for the suggestions. Really appreciated.  :-*
