MURDER IN BRIGHTON
« on: 18 October 2009, 03:04:39 am »
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/sussex/8312162.stm

Anika, I know you ARE careful, but ffs, be careful.

EDIT, now that I'm a bit more awake. Andrea Waddell, a 29 year old transgender sex worker was found dead at her home late on Thursday night following a fire at the premises. She is believed to have been strangled.

A local man has been arrested and is being interviewed today. Sussex police are appealing for anyone who could provide any information to come forward, particularly those involved with the sex industry or anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Upper Lewes Road area on Thursday night.

If you think you could help, PLEASE contact Sussex Police on 0845 6070999, quoting serial 1925 of October 15, Operation Merewood.

From Punternet:

"Sussex Police are appealing to the Administrators of Adultwork to make contact with them regarding Operation Merewood - the current Murder investigation of Andrea Waddell. The Police believe that Adultwork have information on their database that will be vital to the enquiry. The only motive for contact is to find the offender for this horrible crime and all contact will be treated with sensitivity."

I have the registered office address for AW, which as most people know is in Belize but there have been a few debates on here recently where members have tried to contact the people in charge of the site. Did anybody ever have any success?

If you have any UK phone numbers or contact details for anyone connected with the administration or running of Adultwork.com, PLEASE call the police using the contact details above.

I was a small bit happier when I saw the story in the London press yesterday that an arrest had been made, but yes.

The real location of AW is meant to be somewhere on the south coast.

I've also emailed the BBC over the use of the word 'but' at the start of their story: "who had a masters degree but worked as a prostitute".
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

Further appeal from Sussex Police - copied and pasted here in full:

"Sussex Police are appealing for anyone with information on the murder of Andrea Waddell in Brighton on 15th October 2009 to come forward.

Andrea was 29 years of age and worked as a model, escort and prostitute. She had usernames of 'Fuchsia', 'imsosexy', 'extrasexy' and 'glovepuppet' but there may have been others.

Officers would particularly like to hear from clients of Andrea and any colleagues who may have recently had contact with a Scottish male in his early 40s.

Sussex Police appreciate that people may be reticent in coming forward, but would stress that we are committed to bringing Andrea's killer to justice. Anyone speaking to police in relation to this enquiry will be treated with the utmost sensitivity.

If you have information which could help please call police on 0845 60 70 999 or email Merewoodappeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk

This is a secure email address that is restricted to the intelligence team of this investigation.

Update:

A man has been arrested and charged with Andrea's murder. An arrest isn't a conviction though, and anyone who might have information that could be relevant to the trial still needs to contact Sussex Police on the above phone number/email.

Yes tell them. Anything that sticks to this murdering bastard helps. If he is innocent he has nothing to worry about. But how many times have you thought incidents should be reported only to think about what the attitude the police would have? Use your safety buddies, please stay safe ladies, ring me if you want!

Annabelle, please tell the police. No-one knows that 'he's' caught, only that someone has been - until this man is tried and found to be guilty there is always the possibility that the real culprit is still out there. If it is the same person, your texts/dates, plus having this mobile number, would establish him as someone who has contacted and been a nuisance to escorts before and they may be other ladies who have already come forward with matching details.

Far from being a waste of time, this time is vital for the police and the prosecution to assemble all possible evidence and establish their case. They won't be judgemental and you could be helping to nail the bastard that did this.

Sentenced isnt passed until found guilty, and that requires Court proceedings.

The latest news says he has been arrested, nothing yet about being charged.  If and when he is charged he will probably put on remand (kept in prison) until Court.

During this time they will be collecting evidence against him, to secure a conviction when it does go to Court.

Neil McMillan was charged with murder and arson with intent to endanger life  on Tuesday 20th October, and appeared in court on Wednesday 21st. He has been remanded in custody until the hearing.

Annabelle, I appreciate we all want to see a result for this, but we do still count people as innocent until proven guilty in the UK. Whatever the evidence, he has not yet been tried and convicted, and as Penny said, it is then he will be sentenced.
