Hair disaster, should i work? Wear a wig??
« on: 21 January 2014, 12:03:04 am »
So i have had black / brown dyed hair for a while now but i wanted to switch to bleach blonde but you can't put bleach over dark hair dye i just goes bright ginger. So i decided my grow out was long enough & i cut it, turns out it wasn't long enough, my hair is so short it sticks up, i proceeded to bleach my natural blonde hair, used toner & everything to make it basically white. I know have spiky ginger hair!!!!!!!!!!!

There is no style or no amount of toner to sort it out so my question is... do clients find it weird if you wear a wig.... plus it's catch 22... i need to earn money to afford a decent wig to hide this hair disaster but i reckon i'll get walk outs (not happened to me yet, i can imagine it's pretty degrading)

Thoughts ????(yes it really IS that terrible) I'm supposed to be a sex goddess but i look like a ginger teenager rebelling in my punk phase.

Go to a hairdresser. They've seen it all before, and you need it cutting properly - maybe get a cherry red rinse on it to cover the brassy bits :).

I am actually a hairdresser and it actually annoys me that the general public can buy chemical treatments for their hair without training or knowledge as I have seen so many disasters throughout my career.

Providing you don't have a plastic looking wig, it may be ok but a good wig will cost lots. And you will need to be careful it doesn't fall off during sex, that might be a boner killer  :o

I think she's probably learnt her lesson PP ;).

I think from a work point of view you're fine as long as you make it clear to punters what you look like, especially if it's drastically different from your pictures. Just explain what happened (add it to your site/AW page too), and once you've got it all sorted out make sure you get some new photos up :).

Oh dear. That sounds horrible! Poor you.

Agreed with Amy. I recently dyed my black hair red/mahagony and I'm loving the new color. But I don't have pictures of it yet so I clearly update it on my site and let punters know.

I think you should go to the hairdresser and let them assess the situation and see if they can remedy the color and/or cut. But If you look good sporting short hair, I say rock it. I wish I could pull off short hair, particularly a pixie cut like Emma Watson did a few years back. But alas, my face is too round.

I don't think clients care if you wear a wig as long as it looks natural and doesn't fall off.

is it not possible to just shove black on the top? had this situation before and just had my hair dyed black and altough the condition wasnt great it at least looked normal. when I work i wear 'hair piece wigs' which is pretty much a full wig accept you put your hair in a pony tail and grip it over which you then just put a bit of the front hair over. no-one ever suspects a thing and they only cost me about ?35 for big long curly hair (think Katie price length and style) punters dont think its fake and i get so many compliments on what lovely hair I have (tehehehe) :)

It'll go green (this happened to me once, and it was a hairdresser who did it, too). If the OP thinks it can't look worse than it does now, that's one way of doing it  :-\.

I think the hairpiece idea is good, but her real hair still needs sorting out first and for that she needs somebody who knows what they're doing. Since this isn't a hairdressing forum, I'd still say working ought to be fine just so long as punters are kept in the pictures - then again I've been meaning to change my hair for months because I'm bored of it and the one thing that's stopping me is the thought of having to replace all my pictures in all my ads :(.

If you put a flat (matte) colour on top of blonde it will go khaki green so don't do that BUT she could put a warm dark brown, like a chocolate brown on top and the warmth in the colour will stop it going green  :D

Also if her hair is orange then the warmth in the orange will stop a matte colour turning it green also HOWEVER if her roots have taken to the blonde then that WILL go green. When someone is going from having their hair dark to blonde, we use a colour stripper that ALWAYS lifts it to a bright, firey orange which believe it or not is what we want then we put the colour on top but this really shouldn't be attempted at home.

If you insist on doing it at home, go into salon service and buy NUMBER 4 DIACOLOUR RICHESSE (which is brown) and 4.15 DIACOLOUR RICHESSE (which is chocolate brown) and buy the developer to go with it. Mix half and half of each of the 2 colours and add developer. This will turn out pretty dark but at least it will NOT be orange and it will have a nice, rich tone to it.

I'd recommend you go to a salon and have it done but as I described above, that's what I'd do if you came into the salon to see me.

When people go from dark to blonde, it always goes slightly orange, you have to persevere with it, keep having highlights on top to eventually get rid of the chemically treated hair underneath which is a bit of a nightmare.

The other option with your hair being so short is that if you insist on being blonde then a professional may be able to keep stripping it to bring most of the orange out then put an Ash tonner on it to try and cancel out the warm (orange) tone.

Hope it all works out for you.

PP, I've touched on this already but can we please try and keep it prossie-related? There are hairdressing forums full of this stuff all over the internet if the OP wants to have a look, and that's where it belongs :).

you could turn it into a theme until you've sorted out your own hair. Blonde wig, white halterneck dress for a Marilyn Monroe fantasy, black wig with fringe for a Betty Page outfit with burlesque corset etc, red hair and long opera gloves for a "Gilda" type striptease.  Use your fantasy, the guys will love it, and not suspect for a second that it's down to a hair disaster.

Oh, that's OK. If nothing else, like you I don't want to encourage the OP to put any more stuff on her hair and none of it is relevant to whether or not she should work.

I've had three major hair disasters (one colour, one perm and one cut so bad that it resulted in my having to virtually have my head shaved to correct the damage) in my whole life, and regardless of what I've posted above, when I think about it now I was in such a state after each one there is no way I could have worked at a job where feeling that I looked nice was important - there weren't the accessories available then admittedly, but I barely left the house let alone wanted anybody to see me. Buying clothes or makeup that turn out to look crap is easily fixed because you just don't have to wear them, but a hair disaster is horrendous.

If you have bookings before you've chance to get to a hairdresser and think you can face punters, you can put a bit of makeup on and just get on with it - many will have seen worse. It all depends on how lousy you feel, rather than how lousy you look  :).

Oh dear, not a great situation! I had a dream once I started balding after bleaching my hair too much and all my hair fell out and I couldn't work. It was so damn real in this dream I woke up crying and ran to a mirror!! Not the same sort of thing but I guess what I am trying to say it could have been worse :P

Yes I am another hairdresser here too and I know there is a whole internet out there to help you with that. I think maybe in this case you should just go straight to a reputable hairdresser who knows what they are doing (sorry but I was a newbie once and I wouldn't have wanted to go to me hence starting escorting :P) and just do everything Amy has said really! Just make sure you go to someone recommended or possibly a senior stylist who has more experience with these things.

I am sure even with shorter hair, once styled can look incredible! just get it trimmed and styled as it grows out so it can do so gracefully and you still look good :)

I did this two years ago on plum coloured hair and ended up with tangerine streaks so whizzed straight to my hairdressers who cut away the damaged hair and then put three different blondes on to tone it down (mainly shades of ash blonde) and you would never have known I had a disaster.  A good hairdresser should be able to fix it straight away like mine did.

As for wigs, I know plenty who wear them and not expensive ones either, just the ?10 - ?20 jobbies you can buy from most markets and no one says anything.  Try to get the lace front ones though as they are easier to fix into place and tend to stay put (wear a wig cap too) as nothing worse than mid BJ and your hair falls off.  You will need at least a dozen bobby pins (not hair grips but proper bobby pins) even if the wig has grips built in.  Well placed bobby pins will stop it moving at all even during the most vigorous sex
