I'm currently on Celeste (long story which is for another thread), and because my periods are so heavy, painful and irregular this has been the only contraception so far that has regulated them and brought them down from 10 days to 6, but hasn't lessened the amount,.  If I take them continually rather than the 3 weeks on 1 week off rule I still have a bleed.  Annoyingly the dr's have informed me they aren't willing to give me a hystorectomy.  It's so frustrating.  I suppose I'll just have to wait for my menopause :(

Is that because they assume you'll want children? That's bad, you should be given credit that you know your own mind and don't need someone else to make decisions for you about your body

Is it possible you suffer from adenomyosis? Not that easy to diagnose - it needs a hospital with pretty good scanning equipment. If adenomyosis is found, you're likely to be offered a hysterectomy, since it's the only cure. I guess you're taking iron to compensate for the blood loss? I found it really helps with the exhaustion that comes with heavy periods.

I would have thought they'd be more inclined to give women of my age (42) a hystorectmy, but for some reason they won't.  As for the adenomyosis, nothing has ever been mentioned or diagnosed.  I've had scans and cameras up there over the last 3 years, and the only things they've found are fibroids (which I've now had removed), and cysts, which they kept a check on last year to see if they would develop into anything else.  Celeste has been the only contraceptive that I've used (and I've tried pretty much all of them now, apart from Yasmin and dianette), that hasn't caused lots of side effects or had me on a period for months at a time.  It would be nice to find a pill that I could take were I didn't bleed, but to go through the whole process of finding one again fills me with dread after everything I've been through with them.

Love spinich and cabbage, so I recon I'm covered on the iron front LMG  ;)

I understand not wanting to try another yet again, but I'd recommend Yasmin for stopping bleeding

I take 3 packs of my pill (rigevidon) then take a weeks break for a period. I know some women start to get breakthrough bleeding if they take more than about 3 packs but I just start to feel a bit bloated.

So basically I can't afford to not work right now but will not do the sponge thing. My period is due a week today and I always last a whole 6 days days :( That's pretty much a full week out of work.
I'm on Marvelon where you take a week off after every 3 weeks I think it is. Rather than have a week off, if I continue the pill will it cancel out my period?  If so that's great but will it knock them out of sync if you get what I mean? Don't want them out of sync but the thought of 6 days off when I'm so skint is killing me!

That's strange because I also taking Marvelon and I've got 3 days period only. Usually I got period Saturday and Sunday when I don't work and Monday I start working again. Period is very weak so sometimes I do not have to use even sponge.

CRAP! I just got my period, even though I'm on a continuous pill. I missed a day last week and spotted a bit and thought I'd gotten it back under control but for some reason I'm bleeding fairly heavily.

So, I'm just going to take a few days off and not take the pill and let this period do its thing. Someone upthread mentioned breakthrough spotting every few months. I have experienced that but always assumed it was down to me missing a day (which hasn't always resulted in bleeding.) Maybe I just need to let it happen once every three or four months. I don't know.

I think it's just trial and error with contraception, as what works for one may not work for another.  I may have a word with the dr about Yasmin LMG and see what they say.  As for Mavalon and the Minerva coil, I had terrible side effects with both and with the coil I had a period for the whole 3 months I was on it which made me really ill with the amount of blood I was losing, that's not to say it wouldn't work for the op, but she does need to be aware that it may not work.

SweetCheeks have you tried offering a limited service whilst you're on?  I usually let guys know that I can only offer a massage with a happy ending for that particular week, and whilst all don't take me up on the offer, some (especially new clients) do, as a way of introduction.  At least that way you're still earning something until you get yourself sorted with a form of contraception that works for you.

I take Microgynon, which I know is an older form of the combined pill. I would not recommend it if you plan to take it without a break as I always have a break through bleed. My body seems to take over and is like you're going to have a period dammit! After reading these posts I'm def heading off to the doc as I didn't realise there are some pills you can keep on taking and see if they have anything which suits me.

I would not go on the coil including marina as both my friends had about 6 weeks of bleeding once it was inserted. They now love it and say their periods are much lighter and less painful but 6 weeks for me in my profession is way too long!

I also use Microgynon (combined pill) and I take it continuously with no problems.  I think it's a case of trial and error to find out what works for your body.

I love not having periods and not having to buy sanitary products.  Best thing ever  ;D

I take it continuously for three to four months at a time. I've tried it for longer, but it doesn't feel right and I feel much better after a period. I think it does your system good to have one every once in a while, so I just time it to fit in with my schedule.

Wasn't sure where to post this, did a search but couldn't really find anything relating to my dilema and wasn't sure whether or not to post a new topic so just posted here as it relates to the pill.

So here's the dilema. I'm on the pill (Marvellon), it's the one you take every day for 3 weeks then have a week off and have a period. Being in this industry I'm always skipping periods for obvious reasons. I generally get away with 4 months tops then i have to have a period or i have a break through period when I'm not due.
So I've skipped my pill about 3 months now, just been to the toilet and i can see a period wants to come through cause when i wiped it was the light brown, slimy texture.
So my problem here is, I'm leaving this industry in literally 3 weeks for a civvie job I've got and i need to make as much as possible. I can't afford to not work with what little time i have left. I really don't know what to do for the best. When I'm on an actual period ot always lasts a good 5-6 days which is way too long. I have a hotel booked for Friday and Saturday. I can't afford to lose out on the cost of that.
I'm thinking, should i just not take the pill for 7 days from tomorrow and hope that a period will come and go by Friday or do i carry on with my pill and hope that the random bit blood here and there stops  :-\

This is such a pain in the arse as like i say, i literally have 3 weeks left to make whatever i can.
A sponge is 100% out of the question, i'm too scared i won't get it back out.
Any words of wisdom would be so appreciate.

Hi Ladies. After a year or of really heavy periods my doctor tried me on 3 different pills none which helped then she tried me on NORIDAY( progesterone only pills I add due to my age).  OMG its was like a miracle 2  light periods a year yhhhh sorted never looked back .  Obviously it wont suit everyone  but if you get a good doctor they will keep trying .  I was offered the Merina coil   but didnt fancy it (just me) the doctor told me she had to ask me 3 times about the Merina until I said no before she could offer me the pill ..dont know whether thats nhs cost or not; no idea but hope this helps someone .

If you're absolutely definite about not using a sponge, I'd stop taking the pills now and let nature take it's course. Maybe pick up some coloured condoms in case you're still bleeding/spotting on Friday? Also maybe restart taking the pills on say Wednesday night?

I was on dianette, 3 weeks on and then one week off. So yes, if I didn't stop and just started a new strip straight away I'd have no period.
I had a thread on it a few weeks ago, got a lot of advice about the pill etc, it's was "help! period " or something, just check the search box. Because this is how I actually stopped dianette and started cerazette.

I stopped the pill completely end 2014. My first 4 periods were huge and the pain was excruciating, I couldn't get out of bed. Plus the PSM was just crazy, I don't know how anyone could stand me.  Then I started work with sponge and at first was using too tiny pieces and once had my flatmate dig out for it. You live and learn.
Now my periods are shorter and light, there's basically one day I don't work. And the pain is gone. I smoke and drink a lot of coffee and my whole lifestyle for now is not great so I think the off pill break is quite good. Plus my periods are super regular and I track them on my phone so no surprises. Sponge and flavoured lube. No fingering and no oral for a few days.
