Working during your period
« on: 14 February 2010, 06:15:44 pm »
Hello everybody,

I was just wondering, as each person is different, how do you cope with that dreaded time of the month? I have tried using sponges and they don't agree with me as find them uncomfortable, the injection has sharper consequences for me as puts me out of action for weeks. I have been on the pill for around 4 years, i used to take them pack to pack but that took its toll and has been disagreeing with me so have to put up with 5 days off a month. I am currently having my 5 days off and its horrible, headaches and mood swings. My poor partner! Any ideas welcome?  ???

Love N' Hugz.

By pack to pack, do you mean you took your pills without a break, or just two packs at a time? Even if six weeks and then a break doesn't work for you, you can extend your cycle by a week if you use a marker to keep track of where you are on each pack of pills. I did that and it worked well, then I decided to work up to taking two packs at a time, which worked out better than when I tried to go straight from a four week cycle to seven weeks.

Hello, thanks for your reply,

Ive tried taking 2 packs, pack to pack, but by the last week i start bleeding so have had to scrap that idea totally as it messes me up. I'm thinking implant but haven't heard much about it, I'm not sure if you have periods while on that or not.

Hi Mak

Everyone is different but i had the implant for about a year.  At first my periods stopped altogether and i was delighted but after about 6 or 8 months they were coming every two weeks.  They were light but still there so obviously a big pain in the hole (scuse the pun).  I ended up going to get it taken out as it was so annoying.  Now i'm back on the pill.

Same thing happened to another girl i know too.  Apart from that it was fine though so maybe it would be worth trying it.  Even if it did just stop your periods for 6 months or so its better than having them i suppose.  When you get it taken out you just go back to the usual cycle but sooooo heavy.  :-\

Hi,

Have you tried Beppy tampon sponges? You can get them at www.stressnomore.co.uk. They are fantasticand you really can't feel them. Get the ones with lube as these are easier to insert and remove. I also do the back to back pill thing, but I take 3 packs then have a period.

Good luck,

Also try natural sponges, I use to use Beppy, until I was on tour and couldn't find them to save my life in Ireland, so I resorted to using a natural sponge, and I haven't looked back since, for on thing you can cut them to size, and the compact very nicely inside, and are very absorbent. But make sure you serialize it before use, by boiling.

I use a diapragm rather than sponges. Insert it the wrong way up and the blood will catch there. I find it best to use tampons the rest of the time, or things get messy. But I've had a diapragm in for an entire night with no problems (though I am fairly light). I find it's easier to remove than sponges, and free  ;D

If you don't mind the idea of using your packs unevenly, try what I did and add an extra week to your cycle. Even if you don't move past that bleeding every five weeks is better than every four, but I think if you have a few cycles of five weeks, then a few of six, your body's probably more likely be able to deal with seven weeks.

I noticed someone had put a thread on here a short while ago about the best things to use so you can work through your period.  I have tried most forms of contraceptive's over the years (implant's and sponges been the only one's I've not used), and they've never agreed with me.  I'm reluctant to try implants as the chances are I'm more likely to have bad side effects rather than good ones, due to my track record, but was wondering about sponges (I tried the coil, and had serious cramps, heavier periods and infections. I'm aware that the sponge won't have an effect on my period or make my cramps any worse, but am concerned about the infection side of things).
Been still quite new as an indie, work is slow at the moment and I can't afford to be turning work down when I'm on my period, and wondered if anyone had advice on the best kind of sponges to use and how effective they are.  Without sounding too crude, I have very very heavy periods and usually last between 5 and 7 days, and apart from the infection side of things such as Thrush or BV, I don't want to have an accident whilst I'm with a client.  I have a look on the net to see what the best ones might be, and there were comments about using the contaceptive sponge, but it has nonoxynol-9 in it and I don't want to use that due to the increased risk of HIV if you're a WG.  Any one got any idea's on what the best ones are to use and how reliable are they.

Thanks
Dexi

I always work during my period.  I use a diaphragm and have never had any 'accidents' - I put it in just before the client arrives and I take it out in the shower after he's left.  Can't help with advice for the sponge as I've never used one, but I know lots of ladies use them and seem to get along just fine with them.

I can only use a sponge the last few days of my period. Last time i used 2 at the one time as i had only just started my period the day before. I popped them in right before he arrived and after the 2 hours when i went to shower  i noticed i had an accident. I was lucky that this client was a little strange and just wanted to sit and hold hands and watch eastenders after a hand job or i would have been in trouble lol.

Sponges are great but not for everyone xxx

I also have a heavy flow and can't use sponges.  I don't really like working during my period as I am a grumpy cow, and never feel comfortable.

But in the past I have worked through but just offered oral/ hand relief and breast relief, ie anything other than penetration.  The majority of clients I told where fine, with just a couple waiting to book when I was back to offering the full works.

Jas i was thinking of doing that but didnt know how to market it.

Do you lower your rates for the week?
Do you put anything on your profile to say limited services or do you wait till they contact you before you tell them?

Oh and SHV,

i use http://www.stressnomore.co.uk/Search/beppy for my sponges. Please DO NOT use any old sponge from the supermarket as they are not designed for intimate use due to the fibres in them  ;)

Being new to being a WG, I am yet to come across this problem but when I do I plan on simply notifying the client of the 'situation' and leaving it up to them to decide what we do... i'm expecting a fair few not to mind at all!
