Thank you for the very useful topic, Nia.  I know someone who was "investigated"..lost about ?80K as far as I recall.

Did the lady own a property? That's when an investigation could be messy. If she didn't own a property she would have been able to declare herself bankrupt rather than pay that amount.
I'm glad I got all the Cynthia Payne books before the prices rocked to sky high.

Sorry if Im wrong but 80k to me sounds more like someone that's been evading completely rather than someone who has claimed for the odd thing that they shouldn't have.

I think that's evasion, my gym membership is nowhere near 80 grand!

How come civvy workers in the UK mostly have to pay for their own gym membership (not many employers provide this) whereas an escort can effectively get 25% off? I escort and I think it's wrong! Gym membership is an individual choice.

As for breast implants, I've never met a man who likes them anyway. Men like natural boobs.

Wait for it...
 :)

I'll be first! Men like all sorts I think, my clients and past partners have loved my boobies! What do you mean escorts get 25% off? I've learnt today that we can't claim it back unfortunately.

Probably the men and clients you've been with like natural, that's why they liked you x

Having been through bankruptcy when not a property owner I would rather pay the ?80k.

I've been bankrupt before myself. I don't know why anybody would choose to pay 80k unless they owned or were planning to buy a property within six years. After that your credit file is clean again.

Sure, but those 6 years were incredibly stressful and difficult I also had to still pay a certain proportion of my income towards it. It also restricts or bars from certain jobs, some even after the 6 years, and can prevent a person from holding some positions during the bankruptcy - one of which I'm currently in.

Taught me a lesson, I was brought up not to use credit, and will never put myself in that situation again (position where I  owe more than I hold).

Don't see how you would have a problem after the six years as its wiped off then.

Can we get back on topic, please?

This is like being hit over the head with an iron bar, only to realise that sadly I'm still conscious enough to be able to read it. Drop it and move on, or I'm locking the thread.

I was googling this and thought I'd post here. According to the taxreliefforescorts website you can't claim for things such as breast implants etc but there are a few arguments out there to say that you actually can, I even found an accountants website where they mentioned calling HMRC about a singer who had breast implants and was able to put it as tax deductable.

Maybe there are others here who have since been able to claim deducations cosmetic surgery too.

I have heard of a famous case in the US where an adult performer (I believe she was a stripper and/or porn star) claimed her breat enhancement as a deductible, on the basis that it actually impacted her every day life - she had gone to something like a JJ size and was able to provide evidence that it impacted her normal life, e.g. back pain, unable to perform certain every day tasks such as vacuuming. She was awarded the right to claim her implants as a business expense.

In the Uk I don't know of any such cases.
And me, I am not a mess, I am a wilderness, yes
The undiscovered continent for you to undress

I couldn't kiss punters with false teeth. X

Oh LOTM, that's the best laugh I've had in a long time.

I've had false teeth for 47 years and been kissing all that time and clients too. False teeth do not affect your kissing, trust me 😀
Beauty is nothing to do with having a pretty face.
It is about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart,
And most importantly a beautiful soul.

Have spent 11 grand on dental implants abroad.
The alternative was false teeth. That would have affected my job.

Can I realistically claim that to be a necessary tax deductible expense just like I'm sure escorts who have boob jobs should be able to do?

Absolutely! I have had a number of procedures successfully claimed varying percentages, with the IR insisting on a certain amount of inevitable personal use.
