I don't mean to impose on this forum but I can't stop crying tonight.

I've decided I'm going to quit.
I just wish I quit sooner so that I could have avoided getting this disease.

Please help me.

The doctor did say it was herpes
He perspribed me something for it
I wonder if it could be something other than herpes? He didn't mention what kind of herpes it is

It could possible be herpes caused by, say... chlamydia or syphilis?

I also had BV and was having sex with bv.  :'(
They are all seperate STI's and are not related to each other at all.You should be getting your full STI screening regularly which would test you for the majority of possible STI's and I'm surprised you didn't ask for a full screening while you were at it when you went to the G.Ps.If you don't go to your local GUM already it might be worth starting.I personally get my tests done every 6 to 8 weeks.

Kiara, the people here are prossies, not medical professionals. We can offer support, but if your doctor has left you in this state I think you need to find somewhere a bit more patient and sympathetic and start there. And bear in mind that a massive proportion of the population have the HSV virus - you quite possibly would have picked it up without ever being paid for sex anyway?

What is it you think we can help with? :)

I have seen stats that around 70% of the population have the virus, the oral one, and about 30% have the genital one.

It's really not the end of the world.

I agree with Amy that your doctor hasn't been helpful at all. Where do you live? Is there a sex work project near you that you could access for support? Did you have the test for herpes done at a clinic or your regular gp? Did they rest for any other STIs?
And me, I am not a mess, I am a wilderness, yes

My butt hurts sooo much. This pain is unbearable.

I got tested for hep and HIV and I'm gonna test again in a few weeks.
I live in Canada and I don't know I probably should have looked
I got into this business because I was homeless

And he didn't even test me for herpes I let the doctor at Walmart take a look because I had a little rug burn type thing happening on my crotch, I had sex with it there and I didn't even KNOW

Then he noticed the herpes lesions and told me I have a bit of hsv

Go to the doctors ASAp, if anything to offer yourself some relief.

I thought I'd got it and was devastated but apparently I'd just given myself a skin infection from breaking the skin when shaving and it had just spread :D

Also, if you do have it, remember that this time you are experiencing symptoms will be the worst!

Don't worry, in the scheme of things it's very minor and can be controlled.

Hope you're ok,

P.x

Googling Sti clinics in Canada shows a few...you really need to go to a proper clinic where they specialise in Sexual Health not a Doctor at Walmart.
They can screen you for everything in one session (blood test, throat swab,vagina/anal swab). If you are using protection then you won't likely have any other STI but always good to check anyway plus they can give you proper advice and reassurance (what the heck is 'abit of hsv ffs?).

VC I always find your comments and posts very interesting, however the ones above have left me somewhat puzzled as your statistics are unclear and don't add up. Do you mean that 70% of the population have the oral type and 30% have the genital type and therefore 100% of the population are infected with the herpes virus? Or do you mean that of the 70% already mentioned that 30% of those have the genital type? My reason for asking is that it seems to contradict the statistics that I have seen.

I find it hard to understand why some people downplay the significance/severity of the condition as it is still a very serious condition nevertheless. As well as being thoroughly unpleasant and painful to deal with as the OP has shown, there are other very serious complications associated with it including ocular herpes, (herpes that affects the eyes - very common), neonatal herpes (herpes that affects babies and children causing brain damage, blindness and death), it can cause meningitis, it makes you more susceptible to contracting HIV and other STD's and the list doesn't end there. I will never understand the crazy mindset of punters who practice unsafe sexual activities and then go home to their pregnant wives and girlfriends who then pass it on to their babies.

I also noticed that this figure has been bandied about on other threads which I find amusing. With the greatest respect, just because 70% of the population already have herpes, that doesn't mean that the rest of us who are not infected have any wish or desire to contract it.

To the original OP, try Olive Leaf Extract but a very pure one and high potency (at least 20%), you can buy it off Amazon or health food shops. It can really knock out the herpes virus before it has a chance to kick in, it also has a whole host of other benefits. After your initial flare up has gone down, ask your doctor or the GUM clinic for long term Acyclovir (or equivalent)/which is taken at a lower dose every day for 3 months at a time (it is more of a preventative course of medication) that should hopefully lessen or completely stop you having further outbreaks while you are on it and working. Important note: there are two types of Acyclovir one that is taken for about 5 days for an active outbreak and another one that you take at a lower dose for 3 months at a time to prevent new flare ups. Get both of them and take them accordingly. Try to get plenty of rest and sleep, plenty of exercise, eat properly and avoid stress as they are all triggers. Also the obvious one is to avoid sex and all sexual activities whilst having an outbreak and for at least a week or so AFTER the sores have completely disappeared to minimise infecting anyone else. Also wash hands frequently and avoid touching the affected area and other parts of your body including your eyes as you can spread it around.

Shingles are also a form of herpes caused by the chicken pox virus. Once in a blue moon I have a 5p size patch appear on my backside I can go years without it appearing, usually its if I get the flu or I'm unwell which is not often but when it appears it lasts about a week.

I was actually looking at the stats provided by Planned Parenthood which refer to the US.

https://herpes.org.uk/frequently-asked-questions/
"About six out of ten people in the UK carry type 1 and about one in ten carries type 2, more in the sexually active population. Most facial cold sores are caused by type 1. Herpes simplex on the genitals may be type 1 or type 2."
So there can be a cross-over of the two groups, as it's possible for one person to have both oral and genital herpes.
The link I posted has a link to the stats from Public Health England. It also has a lot of information which I hope will help the OP.

VCs point is that the majority of us have the dormant form of herpes. You can contract it without knowing, some people present symptoms quickly others will present years later after activated by stress or other illness, some people never have an active outbreak.

There's no point in assuming just because you never had active symptoms that you don't have herpes it just means you have never had an active outbreak.

I do hope the OP is ok and has managed to get to an STI clinic to talk to someone with medical expertise about this.

NB post crossed with VCs

Ok, I thought that was the case that you might be looking at maybe a US site. That makes perfect sense.  :) Hope the OP gets the help she needs.

If you google 'herpes stigma' there's a bit of reading there about how it has been calculatedly overblown by pharmaceutical companies for profit. In reality, it's a manageable virus that most of the population have in its dormant form anyway.

OP I know things seem rubbish now, but once you've cleared up and through the worst of it you'll be able to get yourself on your feet again. Hopefully the person you saw at Walmart was mistaken. All you can do now is wait for your results and in the meantime chat with a sexual health nurse or doctor who can get you clued up on everything.

Most of us by the time we're 50 will have at least one form of the virus.
Many people never have symptoms or they are so mild they go unnoticed. Lots of us have the virus and don't know.
It's not seen as a big medical problem and people are not routinely screened for it at GUM clinics.
It's highly stigmatised but rarely leads to greater health problems like Chlamydia.

My advice would be to go to a proper GUM clinic. Not work with an outbreak and take antivirals.

VCs stats look right to me and herpes.org.uk is a good resource.

I bought some

Do you take them everyday ?

No, you just start taking them if you get any symptoms i.e pain (very rare)...then it clears up within hours xx
