[Man sentenced for] murder of Jessica McGraa
« on: 21 January 2017, 11:56:54 am »
I just read the news today. The evil barstard who murdered Jessica McGraa last year was found guilty and sentenced to 18 years in prison. It's not enough though, it should be a whole of life sentence. He took her life and so should lose all of his. It brought tears to my eyes reading this and makes me sad for her and the little boy she left behind (I'm intending to return to work only because I am really struggling to support myself alone and with a toddler and I'm a similar age so I think this is why this resonates so strongly with me) She was just trying to make a better life for her and her son. It also brings home the stark and terrifying realities of this job and just how vulnerable we really are especially as we work alone. RIP Jess.x

I personally think putting people in prison won't make an ounce of difference.  It costs a fortune on tax payers and they get free cooked  3 meals a day with sweets / social opportunities/healthcare /sporting/education opportunities/counselling/free shower etc all for FREE.  They also get out much quicker than originally intended to stay.

RIP.

Shame for her and her family but at least they caught the guy who did it, he got a life sentence and is to serve a minimum of 18 years.

...and that scummy paper the DM surpassed itself by talking about where she advertises, her charges, what type of pics she had on her profile, etc. they have no respect and they can never ever let it lie. They really sicken me, they're like vultures.

I'm glad they caught him and he did get done but its nowhere near long enough. I can't help but think what happens when he comes out 18 years from now and he'll still be in his early 40's and no doubt setting up another AW profile (they said she advertised on AW so i am speculating that this is where he is most likely to have seen her).

Bear in mind, 18 years is the minimum sentence. After that time he will face a parole board and he would only be released (probably on license) if he was thought to have demonstrated that he was ready to be rehabilitated, had sincerely repented, etc. He may well end up dying in prison.

What I found most striking is that he is the son of a high-ranking Nigerian family, and I am assuming by her given name that his victim was also Nigerian-born. I believe he was a student, so if he was released after 18 years he would probably be deported back to Nigeria. At that point his life would basically be over due to bringing shame on his family. So please don't think he will have a cushy time. I know that is scant comfort to her family :(
And me, I am not a mess, I am a wilderness, yes

It is dangerous but look back over the past few years and you have a man killing his ex at the hair salon she worked at, a man attacking a worker at Harrods and numerous men attacking partners/ex partners so the risks are greater but life in general is a risk you never know what is round the corner. Jessica could have met the same man in a bar and thought i fancy some fun tonight and still been the victim of a horrendous murder but the fact that she is a SW makes it more real to those of us in the same business and more scandalous to the media.
I hope her family find peace and i hope the parole board are vigilant when he applies for release
RIP Jessica your family are in my thoughts

I have been thinking about this poor, poor girl over the last few days a lot. She was doing what she needed to do, as all of us are.

I was wondering if the sentence would have been any longer if he had been someone she met in a bar as opposed to being her punter? I really hope the context wasn't a factor in the sentencing.

Yeh there are nutters out there in general my cousin is a nurse and she gets attacked like each week there are risks in general with work and in life . This particular case really hit home to me she was a touring girl worked for a long time had booked a apartment and this horrendous thing happened it has really played on my Mind . Makes you think would he have got longer had she not been a sex worked I hope that had nothing to do with it . In this country people are usually out after 10 years  any way you know what a prison system is like . I hope he stays there for the rest of his life . He was a clearly a complete nutter and he could of done this to any girl out and about . I feel so bad for her family and friends my heart goes out to them .

This is one of the reasons why I very rarely work in an apartment. Would that evil man have murdered her if she was in a hotel?

We will never know and this does not help Jessica but what it can do is remind each and every one of us that our safety on tour is paramount. Hopefully,  they will soon decriminalise ladies working together as well.

We are more vulnerable than most women because of what we do for a living and the low life's this can attract but sex work will always be here. We just need to be extra vigilant in our choice of location and our screening.

Stay safe, ladies.

Hopefully this outcome will show the scumbags who think we are fair game that they won't get away with it
