Do You Expect Tips?
« on: 22 March 2017, 07:05:20 pm »
My last madam encouraged the punters to tip us if they felt we'd done a good job and we didn't have to pay commission on the tips. The tips were really big so now I'm at a different agency, even though I'm at the same price I'm making a lot less money for the same amount of work. I'm not ungrateful and really happy with the kinds of punters I get so don't think I'll raise my price. That would be besides the point anyway as tips are supposed to be at the punter's discretion as a way to say thank you for the good service. It would just be nice to be tipped sometimes and not have to pay commission on it. I don't see any way to subtly hint that I'd appreciate a tip  ;)

On an unrelated note why do punters like to pay in 20s? I find them inconvenient to deal with but does it sound rude if I tell them to use bigger notes in the future?

What about going independent and then your fee is your own? I think the cash machine dictates what notes you're gonna be paid in.Tipping isn't huge in British culture and honestly if I was a punter Id never tip anyone making what we do hourly anything extra but I'm Scrooge  ;D

I have only been tipped in London. I've always been indie.

Honestly at ?120/hour I don't expect tips. If they happen they are a bonus but I would never count on them.

I agree most cash machines give cash in multiples of 20. I always have a few tenners on hand (i.e. not with my main cash stash) in case I need to give change.

Good question.
I had a few regulars back in London who would always tip me. Basically they would give me my fee and what they called my "little extra".
On the whole I would say I would easily get tipped at least 3 times a week, apart from those regulars also new clients left tips. Plus quite a few clients bringing all sorts of wine, champagne, flowers, chocolate blablabla

When I started touring I had few clients who left very nice tips. But few. I don't expect tips so it's always nice but it's really a "surprise" money. I still have a few guys bringing champagne, wine and chocolates (I don't really like chocolates so that's perfect for hotel maids haha). I had guys bring me coffee, books, newspapers, breakfast, fags (ok I asked lol), fruit juice and all sorts of things. At the moment I'm sort of asking them please do not bring alcohol as I'm trying to drink less. Because at some point I had over a dozen of bottles coming just from clients :FF

I'm independent. I rarely get tips (I work in Glasgow only) but if I do it's usually on hour bookings so instead of paying ?130 they will give ?140 and say keep the tenner as a little tip. I do sometimes get bottles of wine and chocolates. Tips are never expected but always a pleasant surprise.

I like tips but don't expect them we are not in America lol. Maybe raise your price if so. I would if that way a tip is included with your fee. Hinting for tips makes you look greedy. Or you will get disappointed a lot because the UK isn't a tipping culture.

Now back to your question, they pay you with the money they get from the cash point. So it's not their choice. If they withdraw 500 and get 25 x 20 there's nothing they can do about it.

No I do not expect them. But I often receive tips in Montreal or New York. More rarely in London. Difference in culture.

I would have thought it isn't a problem paying with different notes because the value is still the same, if clients pick up on how picky you are with the notes they won't like it. It is only those who don't pay the correct amount of your advertised price to worry about.  When taxi drivers ask me to pay in change I don't do all the time because it is easier and quicker paying with notes. They either except or don't get any money.

Clients pay with whatever notes or coins belongs it equals. We cant control what people do and how they do it being picky that is a different extreme its not putting us in danger. Go indie problem solved. :)

I sometimes get given a bonus as a token of appreciation which 50% of the time means they are after something when its a new client  lol but men who've come back to see me have done it to I don't expect it  though.

I rarely get tips but not a problem if I don't. Don't mind being given twenties. One guy paid me in coins. Talk about raiding the piggy bank.

Nope, Norway has no tipping culture. It's not a thing even in restaurants, nevermind in this line of work.

I occasionally get them, but I don't expect them. If I wanted more money I'd put my prices up.

I did get a couple last week, but I also got a ticket to a show and six eggs from my regulars hens and I know which I liked better :).

Very rarely get tipped- usually by Americans! Occasionally when my rate ended in a 10 and the client only had ?20 notes he would say oh keep the change and I have received wine, flowers, chocolates over the years which I find really sweet (although having given up alcohol and chocolate now I'd rather not get them!)

I certainly don't expect anything, but happily receive gifts or cash graciously.

I can not remember the last time I got any gift but have had a couple of extra tenner tips lately. I can go many months without any tip/gift then seem to get two or three in short succession.

I love receiving flowers but my favourite gift is chocolate or sweets. I know I should try to eat less sweetstuff but like my fridge to have at least one bar of choc looking at me when I open it.

What I would not do is write a gift list although I know it is practical if a man is wondering what to bring, but I just could not do it. I get large wads of cash off these men so if I never received a tip or gift I would be quite happy.
