I once visited a small town where everybody was apparently called John. Every single booking and every enquiry too, I shit you not!    I dont normally ask for a name but it was too funny, I couldnt resist myself to see how many more would tell me they were called John.

I have now renamed the town the most unimaginative town in England!

It never even crossed my mind they give false names.
Maybe we should be asking them then so what's your real name.
Jokes aside I think some of my regulars have told me their real name. One in particular even told me where he works. I checked online and what he said is true.

To be fair I don't always ask for a name.I store them then as 'Yes' 'Ok' or something like 'Londoner' or 'Mechanic' so as either that they were ok or something memorable about them.

I think there was already a thread on this recently. David, Paul, John, Steve & Andy/Andrew are the majority in my phone. I have a quite a few Tom's who are TW.
