I don't watch emmerdale but I notice stuff like this all the time, personally it does bother me. It's just constantly reinforcing our dehumanisation for our job, it's so ingrained people don't even question it and these mindsets trickle over into real life - the treatment of us and the public opinion of us - while you can do the whole "ignore what people say" thing, the public opinion influences laws and regulations. So it might seem like a silly throw away comment but personally I think it matters.
I totally get what you?re saying, I think the problem is a lot of women don?t want to tell people what they do for a living, so unfortunately ?normal nice women? are never really thought of as being the most common working girl.
No one would ever guess that I do this and would be totally shocked, even though there?s is a part of me that would love to stand up proud and show the world that ?people like me? do this job and I?m not any of the stereotypes that get thrown around.
But of course, I keep it to myself, when jokes are thrown about I laugh along. If anything very negative is ever mentioned in front of me though, I do try to make certain arguments in sp?s favour if that makes sense.
