Isle of Man - Escorts info on Taxes and legal stuff
« on: 31 January 2012, 08:56:53 pm »
Hello Peeps  :)

I am new to the scene of escorting and have a couple of questions. I haven't started escorting as yet as I live on the Isle of Man and there are a few questions I need answers to. The Isle of Man  have there own government and laws etc.. What I want to know is it illegal to be an escort on the island? Do I have to register  with Mr Tax Man and the Manx government. Do I go self employed?
It being a small island finding out this sort of stuff isn't easy. I have read quiet a few posts on-line about escorting but they relate more to the UK and not the IOM.

If anyone can give any advice about what I asked and especially any advice for a newbie I would be ever so grateful.

Thanks Ruby

As far as I know, indoor prostitution is as legal on the IoM as it is here, and tax evasion is just as illegal.

What you will need to do is be incredibly discreet and I would strongly advise against working from home (as if you didn't know that already :) ). I would suggest registering as a therapist (or similar) just as many ladies do here. There are lots of posts about tax and suchlike on the forum, although it would certainly be worth consulting the IoM tax office too - you can be a mobile masseuse or nail technician or whatever you like, and quiz them a bit.

The thing to look at in the library (it's not available online) is the Sexual Offences Act 1992 - but it looks like it just criminalises other people making money from someone else's prostitution / brothel keeping etc rather than prostitution as such.

'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."
