Software recommendation
« on: March 31, 2012, 07:36:56 AM »
Apologies to mods if this is in the wrong place, I wasn't sure if it should go in the offering/seeking/spamming place but it's not ME that's offering the service - it's just me reporting something useful.

This week I was trying to work out how to watermark photos without having to go through each one in editing software. My TOG friend suggested this and it does appear to work very well;

http://www.visualwatermark.com/free-watermark-software

Once downloaded you can watermark up to 5 photos at a time, or pay for the upgrade and mark unlimited batches. You also can then set up a destination folder in your documents for the finished images - I found bit this really useful too since it means you can pick out the ones you are going to use for your website and keep them all there. Sorry if this sounds really obvious but I'm not very good at pc housekeeping, so anything which keeps my files tidy and in their place is a bonus! A bit of a warning it does try to access facebook when you open it, but that's avoidable as long as you just close down that page.

Def very helpful but what's sad is that now anything internet related connects you to FB.. I just hate this mass brain wash FB thing to be honest  >:(

It's fine to post here - this can be a useful thread to point people to when they ask about photo security etc. :)

My contribution would be the recommendation to just Google "watermaking software" (for Windows) or "watermark app" (for Mac) to find a big ol' list of options to try. If you added the word "review" to either of those searches, you'd find some extra information about them to help you make your decision. Obviously the Apple app store has its own rating/review system, too.

I agree that the whole "login with Facebook" thing is totally tedious!

Evil rather than tedious, I'd say, but I am not a fan want to see that site die.

Google's Picasa does a very nice job of adding text to photos, as well as organising them. Runs on OS X and Linux as well as Windows, and it means you don't end up having to trust a website with your stuff.

Alternative programs exist too :)
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", (hours later) "I'm afraid that you're redundant..."
