What happens if the landlord find out?

Did anyone have this problem? I am thinking in renting a flat just for this, live with my husband in London and get a flat outside and work during the week...if the landlord find out do I have to move? Will I get in big trouble?
 ???
Sorry girls I have so many questions...

Thx

Yes you will have to move cause there is usually a cause in leases about using the place for "immoral purposes".

But serious trouble? no, the landlord can't get you in any trouble if it's legal what you would be doing.

Well I am a very discrete person and will work by myself so i am hoping no one will notice, the flat that I have seen there is just another door in front, I mean just 2 flats in the floor.

And as you said I can always deniy and say its boyfriend or friends...

Thanks Teen Kylie

What happens if the landlord find out?

If its in a clause of your lease yes you will have to find out and you will also have to forfeit any advance monies paid.  :(

No that is not always the case. I had a friend (Escort friend) who had a complaint made to her landlord about her using her flat for immoral purposes. She went to court and there was no real evidence so she was allowed to stay and still continued working.

Just keep who you see to no more than 1-2 clients per day and with hours in between them and then a couple of days a week were you don't work from home at all and you should be fine.x

It depends upon the landlord and the tenant, and if the property is leasehold or not. Some landlords don't have issue esp if tenant looks after the place, pays rent on time and there are no complaints.

A landlord can not just evict you. You will go to court where you both put you're case across and any evidence and the court will decide.

Yeah that?s true. Most LL?s just want their rent and often will only act if they receive complaints and feel they may lose other tenants if they don?t act/aren?t seen as acting. Also most leases have periodic break clauses, so if Mr-Unhappy-LL, finds out and doesn?t want the hassle or cost of starting court proceedings, he just has to wait a bit, and then just choose not to renew the lease and there?s jack you can do about that. In reality, I don?t think it?s something to worry yourself to death about on a daily basis. I think if you pick a good incall place (where it?s safe and hard to keep track of other people?s business), don?t annoy the neighbours and see clients discretely, there shouldn?t be any problems.

Wow girls thanks for all the help ;)

I have found a place that will accept 6 months contract and I will try.
Place is safe, first floor just another flat on the floor, intercom and big windows so I can see they coming before I give flat number...

Next week I will see if everything is ok and hopefully move in next month :D

Again thanks everyone

Hope everything goes well for you leticia, I'm in the process of looking for an incall place at the minute as I find working from home (on the odd occasions I've done it) comfortable and easier. I've always worried about the security though so will bear in mind everything that's been said on here, its been invaluable so thank you!

God no Dexi I don't recommend working from your actual home where you live as once guys find out its where you live and they will they will think its ok to just turn up randomly coz you live there  :o

Another reason is your neighbours and safety reasons as I just posted on another thread.

Could you not share an apartment with another wg or hire one by the hour if its just a few bookings a week you plan to do?  ;)

I have tried for 10 months to find a place to work from with another girl, and have advertised on several forums requesting this, and sadly only one girl got in touch. As lovely as she was the apartment she worked from wasn't up to my standard, so have had to work from hotels which isn't financially viable for me sometimes, as when I've booked hotels in the past guys cancel or don't show and I've had to lay out the costs.  I don't want to be adding to the huge debt that I already have.  This is one of the main reasons why I'm looking to rent elsewhere so I can work.

As for guys turning up unannounced, I have taken into consideration all the tips that other girls have mentioned, and one thing that is apparent is that it is very handy to give the impression that a male lives where you work from.  In that respect I've got that area covered with a husband. ;D

The unexpected will always happen whether you work from home, a shared apartment with another girl or hotels, but we take as many precautions as possible to limit the unexpected from happening more often. :)

I have over the last 2 days viewed 4 apartments. The first 2 only ticked 7 out of the 13 things on my check list (and that was before I even went into the properties).  One had nine, and the other ticked 12.  I was sooooooo disappointed with the one that ticked 12 as it was an amazing apartment, but the huge drawback was it had a concierge.  I came away thinking to myself "can I make this work?"  After much deliberation with hubby I had to resign myself to the fact that it wasn't and was really fed up for the rest of yesterday.   :(  The search continues...

I have been working from my home for over a year and have never and I mean never had someone just 'turn up' if they did I would probably call the police straight away. Did you not read all the other posts on this thread about how we keep ourselves safe at home and how we deal with neighbours ect? I understand where you are coming from but obviously you feel that way because you have not experienced working from home?

I have never EVER had anyone just turn up.  The worst thing that ever happened was someone turning up 3 hours late thinking I'd still see him ::)

I always tell clients that I have a friend who stays with me sometimes, so they never know if I'm going to be alone or not.  If a guy turned up unannounced he'd very quickly find himself turned away.  I imagine why some guys think it's ok however, a friend of mine has a 'work flat' and she encourages her clients to turn up whenever.  We all know men can be fairly clueless sometimes, surely what one woman allows we all want, yes? ::)
Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused

I tell them I don't live there. I tell them I rent the occasional afternoon per week from a very nice couple who work in London and are trying to help the rent due to recession. That's why I need the two hours notice. I gotta get here, set up, get dressed.

They don't give a shit but it kills five minutes while they are getting dressed.
